The 24th annual Pacific Rim Arts Society Summer Festival is celebrated in Ucluelet and Tofino from July1-15.
Concerts, dance, arts, theatre and workshops. Something for everyone!

July 1: Canada Day in Tofino 2012
Festivities and fun on Canada's birthday - born as a country in 1867.

Oh la la and bienvenue a la 3rd Annual French Cinema night at the Tofino Botanical Gardens. Join the TFFS and PRAS under the stars, with your blankets, friends and picnics. Wine is available for purchase. If it is warm, bug spray can be an asset. A pre-movie show with Candace Dawne will take place so come early for some canapes and a good seat. English subtitles. $8, $5 for students – family deal

Women in Fish is ostensibly based on the true story of a ship-wreck survivor but in the telling is also an snapshot of the family and community intimately connected to BC’s West Coast Fishing industry.
The severe decimation of the West Coast fishing industry over the past ten years has had an immediate and life-threatening impact on many women who supported their family through fishing with their husbands and by working in the canneries. Women in Fish is a deeply personal journey, it’s also a revelation into a community deeply distressed and it is unflinching in its response to the near-death of a West Coast tradition and source of livelihood for First Nations, Aboriginal, and many European settlers who all relied on the fishing industry.

Cuban-born pianist Pablo Cardenas first touched a keyboard at age five and was studying at the Matanzas Conservatory of Music by age seven. He has had a long and varied professional career as performer and teacher, and combines his classical training with an interest in his own jazz projects that encompass jazz, fusion, Latin jazz, Classical and traditional and modern Cuban musical styles. Female Reggae artist from Australia. A festival favorite with a vibrant stage presence, Saritah has toured consistently within Australia and abroad since the release of her debut album Gratitude (2004). Playfully powerful, Saritah’s live shows are colourful celebrations of life. Her songs are reflections, affirmations, invocations, revelations. Known for his intimate, warm and entertaining performances, an evening with Barney Bentall makes for a truly fine audience experience. Barney opens a window on the life of one of Canada’s finest singer/songwriters, giving listeners a glimpse of where life as taken him these past few years. 8pm Green Point Theatre –Pacific Rim National Park Reserve – $10
2010 JUNO nominated Jaffa Road is an acclaimed Toronto based world music group made up of some of Canada’s most exciting and innovative interpreters of inter-cultural music. Their music creates a unique sonic landscape that draws organically from the worlds of Jewish music, Classical Arabic and Indian music, modern jazz, electronica, rock, pop, and dub.

3pm - Figura Theatre ages 5 & up.Figura Theater of Iceland is the brainchild of Bernd Ogrodnik who serves as Master Puppeteer or the country’s National Theater. With formal training in classical music, woodworking, children’s book illustrations, and movement arts,Metamorphosis features a collection of hilarious scenarios and imaginative vignettes.
